The Clifton Sausage, Bath
As I mentioned in my previous, 21st Birthday Weekend post, Luke took me to Bath for my birthday. While we were there, we found what I have to say is one of the best restaurants I've eaten at in a long time; it was the perfect way to end a wonderful weekend and I'm going to tell you all about it!
The Clifton Sausage is at the top of what I think of as the centre of Bath. It's in easy walking distance from any of the main attractions (The Roman Baths, Parade Gardens etc.), but far enough away that it's a bit quieter and chilled.
The restaurant itself is much, much bigger than it looks from the outside, and I was so happy about this as it turns out The Clifton Sausage has a fab conservatory-style room overlooking a terrace and a great view of Bath and the hills that surround it. We were impressed right from the get-go!
Food-wise, the whole menu was a dream. Specialising in locally-sourced sausages, there was about eight different types and flavours on offer, as well as a traditional pub menu. Luke and I both went for toad in hole, with a side of cauliflower cheese and yes, we cleared every inch of our plates.
Personally, I played it safe with the Gloucester Old Spot Pork sausages, and they were absolutely delicious. Luke was a bit more daring and went for Beef and Butcombe Ale - neither of us had ever tried beef sausages before but they were well worth a go and have now become a new favourite of ours!
I honestly couldn't tell you whether I preferred my main course or dessert at The Clifton Sausage, because this sticky toffee pudding was to-die-for. If sticky toffee pudding is on the menu of a restaurant, I'll always go for it as it's my all time favourite dessert and I was actually upset that I was way too full to be able to finish this one.
If you're in the area, The Clifton Sausage is an excellent choice for lunch or dinner and I really can't fault it, we had such a great meal and the cosy decor and gorgeous view all just topped off a really enjoyable weekend.
